Reading/Writing/Spelling News

READING NEWS:

This week your child will learn that when they encounter a hard word, using the upcoming context clues will help them determine the definition.

Your child will also meet with me individually where I will be giving them their DRA level. They will then get to go off and shop for just-right books. Parents, you will see a pink sheet coming home this week with their new reading and math levels.

Your child will be introduced to their reading partner and will interview each other as readers. I will teach the children that reading friendships begin with readers coming to know each other as readers, and then using that information to support each others efforts to author reading lives.

Finally, I will teach your child that much of the fun in reading comes from sharing a book with another reader. When readers think and talk about our reading with others, we have more fun reading.

WRITING NEWS:

We are still working on personal narratives during writing workshop time. They will be thinking of a meaningful place, listing small moments related to it, and then they will select on and write about it.
